Adolescent Mindset Coaching

As a parent of three teenagers, I am intimately aware of the frustration and helplessness felt as you watch your child struggle. We all desire a life of joy, happiness and success for our children. We have visions of what that will look like, and yet we are often tethered to the deeply worn path of maturing into adulthood that has existed for decades. As we watch our world change in profound ways, we also see our children navigating a landscape we are unfamiliar with. As they struggle down a road we have not walked, we often don’t know how to help.

Do you find your child is . . .

  • Struggling with feelings of disconnection and loneliness, wondering how she fits into the world?

  • Not knowing who she really is and longing to find her authentic self?

  • Having difficulty navigating academic and social expectations in a largely remote world that leaves her feeling lost and behind?

  • Feeling uncertain about what her future looks like when everything feels unstable and unpredictable?

  • Challenged to manage the sustained stress brought on by world events and current COVID pandemic?

  • Feeling like no one truly understands her, especially you?

Mindset coaching can help!

The goal of Mindset Coaching is to connect with purpose, confront thought patterns that drive limiting beliefs and behaviors that leave adolescents feeling disconnected, lonely, unworthy and that their life lacks meaning.

When stuck in thought patterns that limit us, our emotions can be driven by faulty narratives and we tend to have a difficult time shifting focus, reframing and understanding our ability to control the outcome of our situation.

The role of a coach is to empower an individual to build skills and capacity to impact and control their life. This process includes connecting with your authentic self, finding purpose, investigating where limiting beliefs are coming from, checking in on the reality of the assumed context, reframing the thinking behind the assumption and then building the skills to successfully move forward.

Through goal setting, positive reappraisal skills, and mindfulness exercises that reduce stress and anxiety, adolescents feel empowered to be in control of their life and more forward feeling a sense of value and belonging.

Much like coaching in any other areas (athletic, musical, academic, etc.), the relationship between coach and client is an important factor. Building trust, where receiving feedback is safe and productive, is a critical component of a successful coaching relationship. Additionally, it is important that clients are ready to change their situation and want to make things better… they just don’t know how.

As an Adolescent Mindset Coach, I work with teenagers who are looking to find their authentic self, seeking a place to truly belong, and who are interested in creating a life they love.

For parents:

Coaching should never be used to treat mental health disorders and is not appropriate for individuals recovering from trauma. If at any point I feel coaching is not an appropriate fit, I will work with you to find a clinician that is trained to address the needs of your child.
